
Professional Bio
Derek Zelkowski is a Broadband Project Coordinator at the West Virginia Division of Economic Development, Office of Broadband. Entering his role in 2022, Derek has been coordinating, planning, and promoting West Virginia’s digital opportunity programs in conjunction with its BEAD program. Derek has convened stakeholders and partners in service of expanding digital inclusion resources to all West Virginia residents.
Derek has previously worked as a RESEA Agent for WorkForceWV, as an AmeriCorps College Ambassador for Education Alliance and West Virginia Northern Community College, and as a Teaching Assistant for the University of Kentucky’s Department of Political Science.
Originally from Wheeling, Derek graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from Marshall University, dual majoring in International Affairs and Economics. He earned his master’s degree in Diplomacy from the University of Kentucky’s Patterson School. Derek has studied abroad in Ukraine and Poland and has written for the Patterson School’s student journal. He lives in Charleston with his wife and two cats.
