Statement of Interest for the Board of Directors
I am interested in serving on the SHLB Board because much of my career has been spent at the intersection of technology, public service, and the organizations they support. In my role with the Washington State Library, I have built and led broadband and technology services for public libraries. That gives me a perspective valuable to SHLB: I represent libraries, but I approach their needs as an IT professional. Broadband, cybersecurity, networking, telecommunications, E-Rate, and infrastructure are now basic requirements for libraries. At the national level, libraries are most often represented by librarians and library leadership. I would welcome the opportunity to complement those voices with an enterprise IT perspective and connect library needs with the technical, operational, financial, and policy realities behind them. I am also interested in representing public libraries beyond Washington. Many of the challenges we face locally are shared nationally. SHLB brings together anchor institutions, technology providers, policymakers, and public-interest organizations, and I would value the opportunity to contribute practical experience while helping ensure library technology and infrastructure remain part of that conversation.
