Professional Bio
Dr. Pierrette Renée Dagg serves as the Director of Research at Merit Network, based at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Her research and writing span topics including artificial intelligence, broadband access, the societal impact of technology, and gender studies. She is a contributing author to the forthcoming book The Female Teacher on TV, available from Bloomsbury.
Recently, Pierrette completed a Digital Opportunities Fund Fellowship with the Benton Institute for Broadband & Society, where she authored case studies spotlighting broadband champions in local communities. She is also a Research Associate at the Quello Center for Media and Information Policy at Michigan State University and teaches as an Adjunct Professor at Oakland Community College. Additionally, she serves as the Area Chair for Intellectual Property and Copyright within the Pop Culture Association and as the Chair of the AI Working Group at Merit.
Prior to her role at Merit, Pierrette was the Creative Director at Crain’s Detroit Business. Her work has earned recognition from the Society of Professional Journalists, PRism, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, including an Emmy nomination.
She holds a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Toledo, where she graduated magna cum laude, was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, and was honored as the Distinguished Graduating Scholar by the College of Adult and Lifelong Learning. She later earned an Executive MBA from the University of Toledo College of Business and Innovation in 2018, followed by a Ph.D. in Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education and Educational Technology in 2023.
Pierrette is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Educational Research Association, the Michigan Council for Women in Technology, and the Pop Culture/American Culture Association.
