Washington, D.C. (December 4, 2019) - Today the Schools, Health & Libraries Broadband (SHLB) Coalition welcomed the Federal Communications Commission’s E-rate Category Two Order finalizing a five-year spending approach for Category Two equipment and services.

John Windhausen Jr., executive director of the SHLB Coalition, made the following statement:

“Schools and libraries need funding for Wi-Fi equipment, network maintenance, and other internal connections to bring the educational benefits of broadband into the classroom and library buildings. We are pleased that the FCC decision makes the Category Two budget approach permanent and provides school districts and library systems greater flexibility to allocate funding to best meet their connectivity needs. While the Commission could have gone a bit further to adjust the budget calculations to reflect future funding needs, we also appreciate that the Commission has kept the door open to funding network security in the future.”

The SHLB Coalition previously filed joint comments with the State E-rate Coordinators Alliance in WC Docket No. 13-184.
