Business Data Services

Business Data Services (BDS) refers to the high-speed lines used to transmit large amounts of data quickly. BDS is a wholesale service that is a component of most broadband services. While you may not be purchasing BDS directly, it can still impact your prices since your network provider may be purchasing it and charging you for it. As it stands, BDS is a broken market with little or no competition. Seventy five percent of consumers have at most one provider option, which drives up prices. This money could go to buying tablets for students, digital labs for libraries, and new computers at nurse stations.

The FCC has tentatively put BDS on the agenda for November 16, 2016. Read documents on SHLB's stance below.
